I am 76 years old, and I am totally blind. I live alone, do my own cooking, cleaning shopping, laundry, etc. My only income is Social Security and my only health insurance is Medicare. Virtually I have nothing, but in reality I am richer and happier then Bill Gates will ever be. I have learned what it takes to live a happy, independent, and productive life in spite of my physical loss. And it is this knowledge that I wish to convey to you this evening. The closing line of my talk is as follows; if any one of you in this room should suffer one of the devastating losses that I have mentioned, do not, I repeat, do not think of this loss as though it is the end of your world. But, think of this loss, as the beginning, of a brand new life. “Skiing the Planet” presented by Doug Stoop
Doug Stoup has travelled the planet skiing and snowboarding some of the highest and remote peaks on the earth. He has skied to both North and South Poles and is passionate about educating youth about the fragile Eco system in which we live. |
